I was 12 when the Jayhawks won the National Championship in 1988. I still remember how fun it was to watch the games especially the championship game with my family at my grandparent's home (my sweety grandpa was a big Jayhawk fan). So, when Sam mentioned that they were opening up Allen Fieldhouse so people could come and watch the game on the jumbo tron (or what ever that thing is called) I got all excited! Just a little side note...my husband always finds fun things to do and is always game for an adventure. I love this about him and it has provided our family with a lot of fun memories! So his idea meant...we went and waited in line for almost three hours (we were third in line to get in). It was free, so therefore first come first serve, hence the early arrival and wait. Sam and I chatted with my super fun friend Anne Marie and the boys played football with some other kids on the lawn. It wasn't a bad wait and definitely worth it. We joked that it was the only game we could afford to go to so we were going to take advantage of the opportunity. It was definitely a rush of emotions and amazing how so many people can get so excited and cheer and carry on as though the team could hear us through the jumbo tron. The boys were definitely in their element...they had such a blast! They are still talking about it. We had so much fun as a family that we decided we are going back for tomorrow's championship game! This time we're bringing chairs and eats and drinks for the wait. I remember how fun and exciting it was for me as a kid and now we get to do this for ours...it's really fun for us! Anne Marie is accompanying us again which we are excited about. If you poke her I think she might bleed crimson and blue! I've attached a video of the last minute or so of the game.
All this said, it brings me to think of the Lord and my life for Him! We heard an excellent message this morning during Family Bible Hour. It was on being sold out for Christ. I like to think of it as being sold out "to" Christ and the "for" will follow. When I think of all the excitement I have about the Jayhawks and then going and experiencing the game with thousands of fans and all the emotion and excitement involved, how on fire we were during the game, I have to shamefully say that I rarely get that on fire for my Lord. It has been a challenge for me the past few days to think upon this. I'm so thankful that the Lord can use a basketball game to get me to think about my life for Him and then give me a message to encourage me. His love is unceasing! Two points made at the meeting today in order to be sold out to Christ were, do not be attached to the world and recognize and deal with your sin. The speaker challenged us with the thought that according to the world's standards the three hardest words to say are, "I love you," but in reality it is, "I have sinned." I know that too many times my pride gets in the way of me saying those three little but very poignant words...I have sinned. But then I have to remember that my pride is rebellion against God, the same rebellion that Satan displayed against Him and God says that "rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft." That is definitely a road I do not want to go down, but often do without thinking. I'm thankful for how the Lord loves me and shows me these things so that I can be changed for Him! I'm challenging myself to be sold out to Christ in every thought, word, and deed! God was sold out for us when He gave His all for us through His Son, it's the least I can do for Him.
